Why Are We Here?

From your host John Shore: I have spent a lifetime performing on small stage. That’s not a bad thing. I love working with small audiences. I have done big stages and they are fine. But with a small audience you get to see people as individuals and interact directly with people in ways that are simply not possible with larger groups.

Problem. The math of telling people about performances with small stages is very difficult. Ads are expensive and the mass media platforms of radio and television are set up to do business with big companies with lots of money to spend on ad budgets. Small theaters and solo performers have a rough time getting noticed. Even social media highly favors big companies.

So this is a space where we encourage dedicated audience members to get to know dedicated performers. And hopefully you will go see a show. Or better be inspired to participate in a show. Or best, step on to a small stage yourself.

A compact digital mixer with illuminated faders and soft-glowing level meters sits on a smooth black desk surface. Beside it, a notebook labeled “Show Cues – Kentucky Small Stage” lies open with neatly written cues and penciled timing marks. A pair of over-ear studio headphones rests gently on the mixer’s edge. Overhead track lighting provides even, neutral illumination, creating subtle reflections on the knobs and metal surfaces while leaving the surrounding room tastefully subdued. Captured from a slightly elevated, diagonal angle with a shallow depth of field, the focus remains on the mixer and notes, conveying a meticulous, professional atmosphere that underscores the technical craft behind every performance.
